The Paul Davis Emergency Services, a company that donates time and services to those who are physically or financially unable to improve their properties, were busy May 27 helping the Family Promise of Monroe County.

Family Promise, a non-profit organization that helps families in need, found themselves in need due to the excessive amount of rain and snow melt that occurred at the end of March.

Because of this the Family Promise Day Center, located at the Stroudsburg Wesleyan Church, was flooded with more than five inches of water, explained Faith Waters, Family Promise Vice President.

“The scale of the clean-up went beyond what volunteers and employees could tackle,” said Waters. The mass amounts of damage led the Family Promise Board president to call Paul Davis Emergency Services for help.

Paul Davis employees Jim Amici, a former Family Promise board member, and Bill Hund, the emergency service owner, “spent hours cleaning and treating the space,” said Waters. The Paul Davis office donated its services through the company’s annual philanthropic initiative, Restoring America.

According to Eileen Davall, Business Manager of Paul Davis Emergency Services, restoration of the Center included water extraction, and drying, which utilized commercial fans and dehumidifiers.

Adding to the restoration process was sanitization. “The entire facility needed to be sanitized because ground water contains bacterial growths which can be harmful to humans,” said Davall.

Davall says they were happy to help the Family Promise because of the center’s helpfulness to the community and they were “impressed with how much good they do on a limited budget.”

Family Promise is a nonprofit, nondenominational organization that helps homeless families by providing shelter, meals, and support services, all offered solely to Monroe County families in need.
