Stroudsburg church gathers organizaitons for Hope in the Poconos on Sat.

It may appear an informational gathering of local services. But Saturday’s “Hope in the Poconos” event at Stroudsburg Wesleyan Church at 915 N. Fifth St. from noon to 5 p.m. actually is a celebration for those people overcoming adversity with free food, free live music and children’s activities.

“We’re not only looking at the dark side but at the light side,” said Stroudsburg Wesleyan Church Pastor Lenny Luchetti. “Three or four months ago, with all the news about despair and hopelessness, we wanted to put a spotlight on organizations and support groups to help offer hope for those in different situations and addictions and have groups offering help to those with health issues. Maybe more candlelight services would help.

Thanks to a change in classification from Metropolitan Edison Company, the Stroudsburg Wesleyan Church is looking at a $7,000 a year increase in its electrical bill. That’s 15 percent of the budget. Better pass the collection plate around again. Read more →
